Rhode Island Legislative Update - 2009

The 2008 legislative session is currently in recess. The Senate may return at the call of the Senate President, while the House may return at the call of the Speaker of the House. Several bills were vetoed by Governor Donald Carcieri, thus placing the General Assembly in a situation where they must return for a special session, or allow the bills to die in 2008.

State legislators are in the process of running for re-election. The Rhode Island primary took place on September 9th, 2008. Election Day occurred on November 4th.
